SOL-Perpetua™ Solar Water Heating System Installation Instructions and Operating Manual For Series "A" Pumps
Sizing the SOL Perpetua™ System
The practice is to size a solar water heating system such that sunny day it will provide for the average daily consumption of water. The storage tank should therefore be large enough to contain the amount of water used on an average day and the on a hot collector panels should be sufficient in area to heat that tankful each sunny day.
Providing a larger system than would result from this standard would no doubt provide a greater percentage of solar heated water; the cost effectiveness would, however, decrease and, more importantly, there would be the problem of disposing of excess heat in the summer.
Local weather patterns, temperature of incoming water, cost of fuel, pattern of hot water use, and your expectations should all be taken into account in sizing the system.
